Community Education - ABS Radio and Television

The public broadcasting system will be used to teach learners. Through the Education Broadcasting Unit in the Ministry of Education, Lecture and other pertinent information will be communicated through pre-recorded and live simultaneous presentations on ABS, including the national Conversational Spanish Programme (Spanish is the second official language of communication in Caricom).

  • Adult learners will be prepared for Certification through this medium, while their certification examination will be executed at the Antigua Evening Institute of Training.
  • The public electronic media will be utilized in effecting Community Education. The Communities of this nation will be oriented to the belief that education is central to their hopes for the future, and that quality education is in their interest. ABS will be used to impact community operations in positive ways assisting the people by adding systematically to their knowledge, improving their reasoning, enabling them to search out causes and predict effects, while helping them form a scale of values. The goal of this community education will be to make people more competent to govern their lives. It will also stir their consciences as citizens, concerned about the course of other people's lives, possessing some rational notion of what the good life entails and about the kind of society that would give them the best chance of pursuing it.

School / Civil Society Alliance.

The Ministry of Education will pursue special disciplinary programmes with Civic and Disciplinary Organizations for quality citizenry of the youth; the Cadet Core with the ABDF, Volunteer Service with the Ambulance and Fire Brigaide; Swimming with the Red Cross….. Reciprocally, The Ministry will assist with academic and technical training for these organizations.

Special Needs Education

Government will aggressively pursue and support Inclusive and Special Needs Education. This will include the specialized training of teachers, providing adequate resources and appropriate curricula.

Special Education needs are defined by the additional public and private resources provided to support their education. This includes students with Disabilities, those from Disadvantaged background and those with Learning Disabilities and within the following structure:

1. - Legal Framework (policies, laws, regulations)
2. - Educational levels and ages
3. - Conceptual Framework (aims, objectives, definitions, categories)
4. - Actual situation (services, institutions, teachers, historic trend,
diagnostic, mission, vision, profile of teacher and specialized
professionals).
5. - Community and social participation (society's role, family and NGO's)
